Grays Harbor Co, WA - Man Hit by Sleeping Driver in Head-On Crash on WA-109

Grays Harbor Co, WA (September 15, 2021) - A 25-year-old Seattle man was airlifted following a head-on collision in Grays Harbor County on Saturday, September 11.

Two vehicles reportedly collided at the crossing of WA-109 near mile marker 5. According to local sources, a 53-year-old Elma man was operating a 2008 Chevy Silverado pickup truck headed southbound on the highway. The man reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel.

The pickup left the roadway and was over-corrected. He entered into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on with a northbound 2012 Nissan Versa driven by a 25-year-old Seattle man. Both drivers were injured in the impact. The Seattle man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment. The Elma man was charged with negligent driving.

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is in progress.
