Thurston Co, WA - Two Injured in Traffic Accident on US-101

Thurston Co, WA (August 20, 2021) - A vehicle collision in Thurston County resulted in confirmed injuries on Wednesday, August 18.

The accident took place on US-101, close to the interchange for WA-8 and Madrona Beach. Late that night, a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old Sheldon man was traveling on the highway when the car drifted left into oncoming traffic. When the driver attempted to correct, he left the roadway and plummeted off a 30-foot embankment into a tree.

The vehicle caught fire as a result of the impact. Responding emergency personnel had to extricate the driver and passenger from the car. The fire was extinguished and the two men were rescued from the vehicle. Both the driver and a 21-year-old male passenger were transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia for the treatment of sustained injuries. The identities of the injured parties have not yet been released.

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is underway. As the inquiry continues, more information will be made public.
