Tacoma, WA - Man Fatally Hit by Freight Train at Pioneer Way & Gay Rd

Tacoma, WA (August 19, 2021) - On Tuesday, August 17, a man was killed after being struck by an oncoming train outside of Tacoma.

The deadly accident occurred near the intersection of Pioneer Way E. and Gay Road E. Local reports revealed that the pedestrian was hit at around 1:10 p.m. that afternoon. The incident prompted emergency responders to be called to the scene to provide aid to the injured victim.

The man was reportedly on the railroad track when he was spotted by the train conductor. The vehicle was unable to stop in time in order to avoid the incident. The man was hit and suffered fatal injuries, being pronounced dead shortly after by responding medical personnel. The identity of the deceased victim has not yet been released.

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
