Grapeview, WA (July 22, 2021) - A state trooper was injured after being hit by another motorist in the Grapeview area on Friday, July 16.

The incident reportedly occurred on WA-3 just before noon in Mason County. Local reports revealed that 33-year-old state trooper Chelsea Hodgson was traveling southbound on the roadway in a 2017 Ford Explorer with her emergency lights and sirens activated. It was then that Hodgson was struck by a 2007 Chevrolet operated by a 37-year-old Shelton woman.

The other driver was reportedly rounding a curve at a high rate of speed immediately before the crash. She then hit her brakes, causing her to lose control of her Chevrolet and crash into Hodgson’s vehicle. Hodgson suffered injuries and drove herself to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale to be treated. The other driver was reportedly uninjured in the accident.

The Shelton woman was charged with driving too fast for roadway conditions. According to initial reports, the Ford Explorer was totaled in the impact.

An ongoing crash investigation is underway. As the inquiry progresses, more information will be made available to the public.

Our thoughts are with Chelsea Hodgson and her family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.
