5 Holiday Driving Tips

Being out on the road during the holiday season can be stressful for a number of reasons. Not only are there more people out on the town, but the driving conditions may also be less than ideal.

If you plan to be on the road this holiday season, check out our tips for safe driving:

#1 - Be prepared.

Make sure that your vehicle has had the proper maintenance conducted before heading out on any especially long trips. This is particularly critical when driving in poor weather conditions.

Check what the weather will be like so you know what to expect. Be sure to grab a windshield scraper!

#2 - Utilize defensive driving techniques.

Defensive driving is a good practice during any time of the year, but it is even more important during the holiday season. People are often more distracted during this time of the year, so it’s even more critical that you anticipate the actions of the drivers around you.

#3 - Don’t drive while you’re intoxicated.

Of course, you should never drive while you’re intoxicated. Doing so significantly limits your ability to drive safely.

#4 - Commit to distraction-free driving.

It can be tempting to give in to distractions, but it’s very important not to do so. Distracted driving takes thousands of lives every year, and it’s never worth it.

#5 - Slow down.

Be patient. It’s more important that you reach your destination in one piece than it is you get there on time. Even if you’re running late, try not to rush too much because that’s when simple mistakes are made that can lead to serious consequences.
