Despite this, drunk drivers continue to be a major issue on Seattle's roads, with intoxicated drivers responsible for a large number of fatalities each year. An inebriated driver loses control of his or her car and is unable to respond effectively to road dangers, increasing the likelihood of a severe crash. Despite popular belief, drinking and driving is a serious public safety issue in Washington.
